Plot

Spoilers Below!

Before the gameplay, the episode starts with Lacey's Media Player, with supposedly Lacey saying hello. Laceyandjammers.mp3 starts playing, before cutting to an interview with Grace Asop, one of the founders of Yaniaso Games. The interview goes as follows:

"Okay, okay. Before I start, can you please, please guarantee this stays between us? You said this interview was for your thesis or something, right? Right? Not anything else? Okay. Phew. [MP3 Changes] Because I'm not affiliated with laceygames.com, okay? They're spreading lies on the internet. Um... [MP3 Changes] All of the stuff the parents kept complaining about, that... that wasn't me. Something about fake games, hidden scares, and... some other stuff... I didn't know about anything; I was always just confused. [MP3 Changes] Speaking about fake games, though, there was one I played myself once because the annoying parents kept bringing it up and up and up again, it was pissing me off, so I was like fine! I'll take a damn look then. And then I found out they might have been right. It didn't even feel like a Lacey's Game, it might have been... Lacey's Petshop?"

The episode cuts to a Yaniaso Games intro screen, and then the title screen of Lacey's Petshop appears. After the instruction page, the player is put into the game, having to follow the customers' requests for seven animals. The requests go as follows:

A clean, cute pup! / A purple cat with striking eyes. / A budgie, but not colorful. / A rare, French long-neck hamster. / A turtle with teeth to smile... / A rabbit without those distracting ears, tail, or legs...

Bad dog end

You clicked the BAD DOG

The player continues to follow the requests as they get more and more cruel, despite Lacey's terrified expression. But when she calls for the seventh customer, a dog with a distorted face appears on screen, before cutting to black. Another screen pops up, reading:

Uh oh! ⬛⬛⬛ you clicked the BAD DOG you ⬛⬛⬛ a mistake

Lacey continues to become more discolored on the screen before a distorted face appears on the screen. After the face spirals, a loading screen appears with a miscolored and distorted Lacey, containing illegible text.

Lacey then finds herself at the front of a house, with two options presented to her: "enter the house" and "go left". On the box at the bottom of the screen, text from Lacey can be seen.

When clicking "enter the house", a skeleton cat blocks the way. Lacey tries to speak to it, but it won't let her pass. The cat is having an awful day due to a bird stealing its skin. Lacey goes left and finds the bird with the cat's skin. Once the skin is returned, the cat lets Lacey pass, as it's cute again.

Lacey enters the house, and ends up in a hallway with three options: "Go right", "go left", and "Upstairs". When clicking to go upstairs, the door is locked. When clicking to go left, Lacey sees a dining table with four pigs eating at it. The scene cuts to an image of the pigs' distorted faces eating flowers, and squealing. Text flashes on the screen, reading:

I've always known what you are. From the moment you first touched me to when I found myself stepping over remains of your skin glued to the floor. You have no regard. I had none either. You squealed like a pig. Just like a pig. This had been my childhood dream. The one you took from me. I collected all those bruises for years. My spine hurts as if a needle went through each seg[ment?]. Once I got used to it I didn't think about it anymore. But you made me think about it forever when you made that mistake. You made a mistake. You took [my] angel away. You took my angel away. You took my angel way you took my angel away you took my angel away you took my angel away you yet--

Pain hurts petshop

Lacey in the Cage

The pigs disappear, and Lacey returns to the hallway. She goes left, and enters the living room with a grandfather clock ticking backward and a cage in the corner. Lacey is compelled to go in the cage and does so, saying:

Yes, I know. No one forced me back inside. But this pain just hurts so comfortably.

Lacey finds the key to the upstairs in the cage and leaves the living room. On entering the hallway, all the pictures have turned into a dog's face before returning to normal. Lacey unlocks the door to go upstairs, and is given three more options: "room 1", "room 2", and "bathroom". More text can be seen in the dialogue box.

Lacey enters the bathroom and comments on its state, saying that the bathtub is not full of blood. Lacey looks in the mirror, seeing herself, before cutting to a figure with wires connected to them. It cuts between the figure and distorted faces in the mirror, before the distorted faces start speaking.

Imlacey

Lacey in the Mirror

Do you like playing on your computer? I made lots of games for you. With none of those lies. These are the real girls' games. These are the real girls' games. These are the real girls' games--

Lacey tells you, in all caps, to go back as the room begins to distort. Room 1 is then selected, and Lacey enters. Inside is a bedroom, and a distorted figure crawls out from underneath the bed as the room begins to distort. Barely audible speech, from Cecelia Condit's Beneath the Skin starts playing, with a solid noise getting louder and high-pitched as the figure gets closer.

"But it never was real, it was just a bizarre story that somehow happened to my life. But it never was real. But I had this dream that was so real. I dreamed that it was me, and not her, that he killed two years ago. And that's another story."

The screen fades to white static, then cuts to a dark room with a single window. As quiet music plays and a hand can be seen by the window, text appears on the screen talking about Lacey's want to get a cat. But the tone quickly changes as Lacey says that "it's been days" and that she can't leave, since he is under the bed. A rotted leg and bloodshot eye appear on the screen, before cutting back to the window. After Lacey expresses her wants to go shopping and listen to music, the screen cuts to a distorted image and the dog's face from earlier. The bloodshot eye and rotted leg flash across the screen with the text:

Puddles lacey

Lacey's Dog

My sweet little doggy. My little angel. I couldn't take it anymore. You can hurt me all you'd like but you weren't allowed to take it away from me. I will let you rot.

The window distorts, and Lacey is back in the bedroom. Room 2 is selected, to which it says "I can click here to end it all". The room has candles and a single matchbox. Lacey lights herself on fire, where burning drawings of Lacey can be seen as a song plays in the background.

Petshop endcard

End Card

The player returns to the main game, where a screen of Lacey waking up is seen, the end card reading: "Whew! It was just a nightmare!" Although, a foot can be seen underneath the bed.

The episode cuts back to Lacey's Media Player and the interview with Grace Asop:

"I only then realized the other cofounder, Rocío, was hiding a lot of things from me. We went our separate ways in like 2010. I'm not even sure she's still alive, to be honest with you."

The interview ends, and after lingering on Lacey's Media Player, the screen is replaced with a bloody, distorted version of it. A second before the episode ends, "Hello" appears on the screen.

The abuse seemed to end as Lacey kills her uncle for the latter killing her Dog. This implies this happens before Lacey's Diner, or the two simply do not exist in the same timeline.

Trivia

  • The living room had a previous design.
  • The pigs were supposed to eat Lacey's body instead of flowers.
  • There was a different version of Lacey dying, in which she burns to death by lighting herself up with a match. The alternate version has it that viewers can see Lacey clearly in a black background instead of it being distorted with many drawings covering the whole background of her being burnt, as with the final version. The text in the alternate version reads:
    • i sleep with my eyes open, staring at your eyes on the ceiling, you've breathed into me for years, a flame that eats at my bone, and not one day goes by, in which i don't smell your skin, as if it was my own, and want to rip it out of me, but i'm a silly little girl that believes in lies, that i can be just as happy as them, so i'll let myself die again. for it has always been just a game, in the end.
    • The scene's dialogue seems to symbolically represents her father's abuse and how she thinks that she can't find happiness anymore. During the last sentence, she might have been aware that her life is in a game, or is speaking about it metaphorically.
  • Puddles' photo is from Ghosttundra's deceased dog, Pepe. (Seen on behind the scenes).
  • The start screen was different, with Lacey with her hair all tied with pigtails, an orange shirt with long sleeves and fuchsia dots, and apron, and a skirt, shorts, or pants.
